Cineprov Starts New Act as Atlanta’s Home for Riffing
Cineprov returns to Atlanta March 2th
Comedy Troupe Riffs on films at Plaza Theater the First Thursday of Each Month
Atlanta, GA – February 22, 2017 - Cineprov, Atlanta’s comedy troupe dedicated to shouting jokes at movies, has been on hiatus for a year or two, but are returning March 2 to the Plaza Theater in Atlanta with a monthly engagement, and are ready to entertain audiences. Originally inspired by the success of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K), Cineprov brings together some of the funniest voices in Atlanta to tackle bad movies with scripted jokes. In an interesting twist, Cineprov is offering a money back guarantee that attendees will be entertained.
Founded fifteen years ago, Cineprov has been entertaining audiences in Atlanta in a variety of locations, until it landed in its current home the Plaza Theater. “The Plaza is the natural home for Cineprov,” said founder Larry Johnson, “It’s home to Rocky Horror, The Room, so many film festivals. It was named the 5th best theater in the country by Men’s Magazine. It’s just a great location to show older films, and then abuse those films for the audience’s benefit.”
In August 2013, Cineprov hosted Joel Hodgson, Creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000 for his one man show and also to riff a movie with the troupe. Joel Hodgson of MST3K has endorsed Cineprov, saying, “Movie riffing is alive and well and living in Atlanta – at Cineprov!” The return of Cineprov corresponds with the anticipated return of MST3K on Netflix.
“We are getting back to our riffing roots and will be scheduling more of the cheesy B-movies that we're all used to when watching MST3K,” Johnson said. Starting with Night of the Living Dead, other movies targeted this season include: Boy In The Plastic Bubble, Rattlers, Galaxy Invader, and the traditional Ruining Childhood Memories Christmas Show. The full schedule is available at Cineprov.com.
For the 2017 season, Cineprov is implementing a 100% guarantee. If any attendee is not entertained, a refund will be given to them by a troupe member, personally. “If you come to a riffer after the show and say you were not entertained, we will refund you with money from our pockets,” explains Johnson. Johnson is joined for the first show by veteran riffers Holly Loy Smith, Ken Hudak and Mark Olsen. Other comedians include Don Emery and Lowrie Scott Taylor.
Cineprov is introducing another new special this year: bring five friends and your admission is free!
